Our Teachers Are Always Learning, Too: Elvis’sTrip

It is as important that our teachers learn alongside the girls we are educating. Recently, Professor Elvis Nshimba traveled to Zimbabwe where he learned about new ways of community engagement. He brought back his new knowledge to Kalebuka, providing a fresh outlook for the community center. We can’t wait to see its implementation! Reflecting on this trip, Elvis commented,

“I took this opportunity to learn about different challenges we face as community organizations in terms of changing community members mindsets and other difficulties in working with our fellow coworkers. I learned how we can use sports to overcome these issues, and through the workshop, participants gave different examples of challenges they face and how they solved them.

We learned steps to create policies and strategies to strengthen ‘self-directed learning’ methodologies. I was happy to share the experience with my fellow coaches and volunteers at the community center, and we’ve already begun implementing new games that address extra social issues such like cholera, substance abuse, child’s rights, etc.”

Thank you Elvis – we are grateful for your hard work, input, and dedication.
