One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
One Billion Rising is coordinated by V-Day, one of our well-established partners, and Malaika is proud to have participated every year since it’s launch on Valentine’s Day, 2012.
The theme this year was Rising for Revolution and our 202 students rose in support of girls’ education.
Our Founder, Noëlla Coursaris Musunka and members from our international volunteer team The State of Female Revolution, in New York with Agnes Pareyio, Monique Wilson, Zoya, Christine Schuler Deschryver, Kimberlé Crenshaw and Eve Ensler. A conversation about what it takes to build revolution, be in solidarity and affect change.
