“On this International Day of Education, we’re reminded of how vital education is in shaping our future. In today’s world, where technology is advancing faster than ever, education is the key to unlocking opportunities and addressing the challenges we face.
Integrating technology into education is not just important—it’s essential. It gives learners and educators powerful tools to improve teaching and learning outcomes. With the right knowledge and skills, we can tackle critical issues like poverty, economic stagnation, illiteracy, insecurity, and health crises that have held us back for years.
For example, technology has made it possible for students to innovate and contribute directly to their communities. Students from the Malaika School used modern tools to design and 3D-print over 2,000 face shields locally during the COVID-19 pandemic, which they donated to hospitals in Lubumbashi. This shows how technology, combined with education, can empower learners to become problem-solvers and agents of change.
Education also plays a critical role in helping communities benefit from technological solutions. In rural areas like Kalebuka, technology powered by solar energy now provides clean drinking water to thousands of people. Such advancements are only possible when individuals have access to the education and skills needed to harness innovation effectively.

Beyond improving lives on a social level, education is the foundation for economic growth. By teaching digital skills and integrating technology into agricultural practices, for instance, we can increase productivity, create jobs, and reduce hunger in a country like ours, which has abundant arable land. Education ensures that learners can keep up with technological innovation, enabling them to transform their potential into real-world progress.
As we mark International Day of Education, I want to remind readers that investing in education is investing in a better future. Governments, communities, and organizations must prioritize education and digital skills training to ensure that every learner can thrive in a world driven by technology.”
