A Holiday Meal

The end of year holidays typically mean a Christmas show put on by our students and a Malaika-wide celebration. This December, school had to close early due to government lockdown measures.

We wanted to make up for this lost fun and also help out our Malaika community during a time that has continuing difficulties stemming from COVID-19. On New Year’s Eve, our staff shared an unconventional meal with students and their families by distributing packages of staple food items to 290 families from the school and 60 from our community center, reaching more than 1,700 individuals.

It was a way to celebrate Christmas together, says Country Manager Sarah Kalumba, while bringing cheer and hope for better times ahead in the new year.
