The community was upbeat as December kicked off with contributions on “Giving Tuesday” December 1, and a charity event on behalf of Malaika and Epic Foundation in New York at Kisan Clothing in SOHO. It was a stunning evening as models Veronica Webb, Iman and other beauties showcased dresses by Sophie Theallet which were ultimately auctioned off for two great causes.
Supporters Luti and Augustin of Belgium were busy organizing a holiday collection at Bank BNP Paribas by creating a “Charity of Hope”. 950 employees contributed one euro each of their December salary to Malaika. The money is designated toward meals and books for thirty girls for the remainder of the school year.
Ben Kalambayi, Congolese filmmaker, educated students and villagers last month as he shared his passion for the arts of photography and movies at Kalebuka Football for Hope Center.
Unfortunately, 2015 ended tragically when one of our 1st grade students died suddenly and unexpectedly. Milambwe Mwamba Myriam developed a high fever and passed away within 24 hours. Her sweet smile and young life will never be forgotten. She will inspire Malaika and the village of Kalebuka to find a way to build a local medical facility that provides quality healthcare. Much work is ahead of us in 2016. Happy New Year to all.
